Module 20 - Passing it on

As the course concludes, it is necessary to think about how you will continue your digital activism and how you can pass it on to others. Over the last 7 weeks, we have invested in you as individual activists but also because you are connected with communities and organisations that need this knowledge. You can now act as ambassadors to your communities about what you have learned.

Here are a few things to think about:

Buddy system

1. Set a goal to accomplish in 2 weeks. Check in with your buddy after two weeks. Give feedback and encouragement.

Example: I will post one blog about indefinite detention on my blog and crosspost it on the MRCF blog.

2. Set a goal to accomplish in 3 months. Check in with your buddy a few times over the next few months to help along the way. These goals should be more policy oriented and include your organisation in a tangible way.

Example: Get three others in your organisation to write blogs on the same subject and post it to your organisation's blog.

MRCF FB & Blog
You have the opportunity to cross post your blogs on the MRCF website. This will bring you more readers, highlight the issue within a larger community, and build support within migrant and refugee communities. Some ways you or others in your organisation can contribute to

1. Write opinion blogs about policy affecting migrants and refugees
2. Write blogs highlighting the accomplishments of your organisation
3. Organise a blogging series such as 5 posts from migrant artists or 3 interviews with leaders of organisations
4. Record video testimonies or reflections about events
5. Post information about any events you are hosting on our FB page

Within your organisations:

1. Tell your executive director about the digital activism course
2. Take a co-worker through one of the modules of the course
3. Impliment one of the digital activism tools within your organisation (e-newsletter, blog, FB page, etc)
4. Recruit a friend or colleague to attend the next 7 week course in Oct-Nov 2011.

Stay in touch
1. Post the same and all information on the MRCF Facebook page
2. Use each others contact information (spreadsheet emailed to you) to contact individuals and work together
3. Book at least one 1-to-1 sessions at MRCF
