What is a "poke"? Don't ask Facebook!:
ReplyDeleteWe have about as much of an idea as you do. We thought it would be fun to make a feature that had no real purpose and to see what happens form there. So mess around with it, because you're not getting an explanation from us.

instant messaging

Abbreviated IM, a type of communications service that enables you to create a kind of private chat room with another individual in order to communicate in real time over the Internet, analagous to a telephone conversation but using text-based, not voice-based, communication. Typically, the instant messaging system alerts you whenever somebody on your private list is online. You can then initiate a chat session with that particular individual.

Hi all,
ReplyDeleteI do enjoy the playful element of social media. Consider Twitter and tweeting. Those are fun terms. In the words of About.com: "A tweet is a post or status update on Twitter, a micro-blogging service. Because Twitter only allows messages of 140 characters or less, "tweet" is as much a play on the size of the message as it is on the audible similarity to Twitter."
I have signed up because of the many groups that address issues I am interested in. For example, I like @CitiesMigration. Twitter also includes attachments to documents containing more than 140 characters. There is a wealth of information to be gathered here. My question is how do you lure people outside, say, the migration debate? Creative thinking may establish an inter-displinary, cross-cutting Twitter site to attract a wider audience.
Wiki is in Ward's original description:
ReplyDeleteThe simplest online database that could possibly work.
Wiki is a piece of server software that allows users to freely create and edit Web page content using any Web browser. Wiki supports hyperlinks and has a simple text syntax for creating new pages and crosslinks between internal pages on the fly.
Wiki is unusual among group communication mechanisms in that it allows the organization of contributions to be edited in addition to the content itself.
Like many simple concepts, "open editing" has some profound and subtle effects on Wiki usage. Allowing everyday users to create and edit any page in a Web site is exciting in that it encourages democratic use of the Web and promotes content composition by nontechnical users.
Hi!
ReplyDeleteStreaming media is multimedia that is constantly received by and presented to an end-user while being delivered by a streaming provider. The name refers to the delivery method of the medium rather than to the medium itself. The distinction is usually applied to media that are distributed over telecommunications networks, as most other delivery systems are either inherently streaming (e.g., radio, television) or inherently non-streaming (e.g., books, video cassettes, audio CDs).
Live streaming, more specifically, means taking the media and broadcasting it live over the Internet.
Backup is the activity of copying files or databases so that they will be preserved in case of equipment failure or other catastrophe.
ReplyDeleteThe term webinar is a neologism, from the (Greek νέο-, néo-, "new", and λόγος, lógos, "speech", "utterance") is a newly coined term, word or phrase, that may be in the process of entering common use, but has not yet been accepted into mainstream language). short for Web-based Seminar, a presentation, lecture, workshop or seminar that is transmitted over the Web, specifically a portmanteau of web & seminar, to describe a specific type of web conference. Although some argue that webinars might be one-way,[1] from the speaker to the audience with limited audience interaction, such one-way broadcasts are perhaps more accurately called a webcast. Webinars themselves may be more collaborative[2] and include polling and question & answer sessions to allow full participation between the audience and the presenter. In some cases, the presenter may speak over a standard telephone line, while pointing out information being presented onscreen, and the audience can respond over their own telephones, speaker phones allowing the greatest comfort and convenience.
ReplyDeleteThanks Ali.
ReplyDeleteThat was really helpful. And your kind gesture is a reminder to me to always follow these steps to help me tap into an unlimited sense of peace:
1.Recognize your CreatorThink on this: There is a supreme power in the universe that is bigger and more powerful than your small mortal self. This step makes you humble.
2.Seek opportunities to put more love into the world.Strive to be a vessel of love, to fill the world with more compassion and kindness. This step makes you loving and lovable.
3.Set aside time each day to spend in spiritual reflection and contemplation. Dwell in the presence of the divine: Your path may be to pray, meditate, read spiritual material, take a long walk through nature—or all of the above.
4.Become more accepting
5.Forgive anyone you have not forgiveWhenever you withhold forgiveness, you keep yourself bound to your own feelings of guilt. This step makes you kind.
6.Recognize your mistakes.Admit where you yourself have been wrong, and be willing to be corrected. This step makes you responsible.
7.Try to see the good in others. When you're tempted to judge someone, make an effort to see their goodness. Your willingness to look for the best in people will subconsciously bring it forth.
8.Take stock of your thoughts and behaviour. Each night ask yourself, when were you negative when you could have been positive? When did you withhold love when you might have given it? Use this process to self-correct. This step makes you grow.
9.Bless the world. Pray not just that your own life will be blessed but that blessings be poured on everyone
10.Use each interaction to be the best, most powerful version of yourself.Try to rise to the occasion. Be the most wonderful expression of you that you're capable of.
HAVE A GREAT WEEK EVERYONE

hi! every one
ReplyDeleteThe web space , also know as storage space or
disk space , generally refers to the amount of space or web server that is allocated to website owners by the web hosting companies. it's made up of the total quantity of all text files, images, scripts, databases, emails, and others files related to your website. web space needs to be accessible to the public, so web space is "hosted: on servers that are connected to public networks.
Crowdsourcing is the act of outsourcing tasks, traditionally performed by an employee or contractor, to an undefined, large group of people or community (a "crowd"), through an open call.
ReplyDeleteFor example, the public may be invited to develop a new technology, carry out a design task (also known as community-based design[1] and distributed participatory design), refine or carry out the steps of an algorithm (see human-based computation), or help capture, systematize or analyze large amounts of data (see also citizen science).
The term has become popular with businesses, authors, and journalists as shorthand for the trend of leveraging the mass collaboration enabled by Web 2.0 technologies to achieve business goals. However, both the term and its underlying business models have attracted controversy and criticisms.
Jeff Howe, one of the first authors to employ the term, established that the concept of crowdsourcing depends essentially on the fact that because it is an open call to an undefined group of people, it gathers those who are most fit to perform tasks, solve complex problems and contribute with the most relevant and fresh ideas.
hi! everybody,,,
ReplyDeleteCrossposting : is the act of posting the same message to multiple forums, mailing lists, or newsgroups. This is distinct from multiposting, which involves posting multiple identical messages, each to a single forum, newsgroup, or topic area.
Crossposting can be helpful if the message is of interest to a larger audience. However, crossposting to groups that are irrelevant to the message posted could be considered spamming. Moreover, excessive crossposting is generally considered bad form because it multiplies traffic without adding any new content. In the extreme case, if all messages were crossposted to every group, then every group would look exactly the same. A crossposter can minimize this problem by specifying that all responses be directed to a single group (see Followup-To)" From Wikipedia"
for me poke is to interfere in some one's affair. But I can see it is used for various terms. I hope we discuss it to day.
